POSITION: Staff Accountant
Position Summary: This role provides essential support for financial operations, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and efficient processing of transactions.
Department: Finance
Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Deputy Director/COO and supervised by the fractional Controller; No direct reports
Start Date: July 1, 2025

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with day-to-day financial transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable processing.
- Prepare journal entries and assist in maintaining the general ledger.
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions, and other financial accounts.
- Support monthly and annual financial closing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Assist with budget preparation and financial forecasting.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures, as well as nonprofit accounting standards.
- Support audit preparation and assist with the implementation of audit recommendations.
- Maintain organized financial records and documentation for reporting and compliance.
- Assist with payroll processing and related reconciliations.
- Collaborate with other museum departments to provide financial insights and support operational needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Controller

COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Classification: Full-time (35-hours per week), non-exempt
Salary: $24 per hour

Requirements

LOCATION:
- Full-time, in person at the Museum.
- Remote Work arrangements negotiable after 90 days.

HOURS / SCHEDULE:
- Standard office hours (Mon–Fri, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.); offices are open 7 a.m.–7 p.m.
- Occasional extended hours may be required during peak financial reporting periods.

WORKSPACE CONDITIONS:
- Modern and collaborative workspace, made up of open plan shared-spaces, private and shared offices.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent computer and hand-eye coordination tasks (extended periods of typing, data entry, and screen use).

BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:
In addition to being confident in your ability to perform the activities list above in the Key Responsibilities section, you will meet the following criteria:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience: 0-2 years of accounting experience (internships or relevant coursework considered).

REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting principles preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (experience with QuickBooks or a nonprofit financial management system is a plus).
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism
