Open Call for Craft Films

Looking for film/video works about Crafts for an independent curatorial project, due for a screening at in Brooklyn on Dec 6.

In the past year, Ari-Duong Nguyen has been humbled times after times by crafting - one cannot buy themselves into being good at a craft, nor can one rush these trial and (mostly) error process. In contrast with craft’s uncompromisable nature, it is vulnerable to destructions of peoples, cultures or ways of living by imperial forces. Film is collective memory. And may, through film, crafts and their practitioners be collectively memorized across generations and localities. This project is most heavily inspired by a film they saw about a Palestinian craft. This is one of many reasons why all donations for this screening will go to their friend’s mutual aid initiative for Palestinians in Gaza & Cairo.

Open to both submissions and recommendations.

The screening will be livestreamed and will remain on Millennium Film Workshop website channel, so please submit even when you can’t make the screening. Similarly, your work won’t be streamed if you don’t want that.

Requirements

  • All films and videos about craft are accepted. Preferably less than 20 minutes.
  • Prioritizing physical/material crafts
  • Prioritizing BIPOC makers
  • Prioritizing non-commercial works
  • Non-NYC-based and international makers welcomed!
