As the Museum’s first Human Resource Generalist reporting to the Director of Operations, you will provide HR leadership for approximately 45-50 exempt and non-exempt employees. You will ensure that the Museum operates in compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws. Specific areas of focus include: talent acquisition and retention, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, leave management, ADA compliance, professional development, performance management, employee engagement, and oversight of HR policies, systems, and procedures. A key function of this role will be supporting the Museum’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives.

This hybrid position is 30 hours per week. Annual salary range: $52,000 to $60,000 based on experience. 

Requirements

Your background and experience:

  • Strong knowledge of HR practices and employment laws. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to research and apply a broad range of HR strategies and practices. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels. 
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills. 
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. 
  • Positive attitude, with a customer service mindset and the ability to build positive relationships with employees. 
  • Adept at problem-solving and conflict resolution. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment. 
  • Three to five (3-5) years of progressively responsible human resources experience at a managerial level, preferably in a non-profit or arts organization. Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP certification preferred. Cultural competency to collaborate and coordinate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
