Position Overview:
The Education Manager (EM) works closely with the Director of Education and QM team to create, implement and manage innovative learning programs providing high-quality art education for young people in school and out-of-school settings. They are part of the Content Team working across the Museum to create an integrated program of activity and also support QM’s Museum Experience Ambassador program. The EM is a key collaborator in establishing strategic goals, initiatives, and partnerships that directly relate to the museum’s integrated approach to education, exhibitions & public programs. Queens Museum seeks an EM with a passion for learning, working with young people, developing formal and informal arts initiatives and the proven ability to effectively manage teams in order to expand the Museum’s outreach to youth of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, and experiences. In addition to having lead responsibilities for developing programs with schools and young people they will also support the development and delivery of programs for a wide range of audiences as part of a holistic learning-centered organization.

Essential Functions:

-Oversee learning programs including workshops, summer camps, and in-school art experiences including school visits and after-school programs, and ambitious artists residencies.
-Work with the Director of Education to develop a long term strategic plan for Learning at QM including short and long-term projects and partnerships
-Manage project timelines and budgets to ensure all program milestones are met
-Build and implement best in class processes for booking school tours; improve systems in order to boost outreach and participation
-Manage a team of Education Coordinators and freelance artists and educators
-Represent Queens Museum with school administrators and community organizers to build and maintain positive working partnerships
-Ensure all programs are planned and oversee and schedule QM staff and teaching artists for all programs
-Facilitate professional development and training for Teaching Artists
-Track and amend project workflow as necessary.
-Gather data, reflect, and report on the impacts of the Museum’s education programs
-Support the Development and Communications Teams by providing timely materials as needed

Requirements

Requirements:

-At least three years of experience of visual arts and working in Museums and Galleries
-Proven understanding of ADA and access
-Demonstrated management, budgeting, and collaborative skills
-Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
-Proven leadership experience in educational settings
-Proven history of managing projects from start to finish and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
-Commitment to the Queens Museum’s institutional values of inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility (IDEA)
-Strong cultural competencies and sensitivities, consciousness of cultural identities and difference, committed to intersectional thinking and practice;
-A strong knowledge of critical pedagogy as it relates to museum education and contemporary art;
-Strong systematic and logistical thinking, able to troubleshoot, examine problems from multiple angles;
-Confident and engaging public presenter and public speaker;
-Strong facilitative leadership skills, ability to lead inclusive and generative processes, to promote cooperation and collaboration among various stakeholders and constituents;
-Language skills in addition to English desirable ASL, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic
