PROFESSIONAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Barrington Stage Company, in the Heart of the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, is looking for applicants for their revamped 2022 Internship Program. Our interns are part of a robust educational program training the next generation of theatre leaders and practitioners. Each internship is geared toward training and developing the skills of our interns as they explore a future in the field.

All interns receive a weekly stipend of $350 with housing provided by Barrington Stage, and work weeks are capped at 40 hours per week for all interns. All internships run from Memorial Day to late August with flexibility available for the right candidate.

Available Internships
BOX OFFICE INTERNS
Overview:

The Box Office Interns will learn all about the ins-and-outs of running a professional theatre box office across three spaces through online, phone and in-person patron interactions.

Skills to be Learned and Implemented:

Selling single tickets via phone and walk-up sales
Processing in-house comp requests for interns, staff and artists
Managing patrons’ requests and providing outstanding customer service
Running daily reports and conducting cash reconciliations
Being part of a flexible team in a patron-facing environment
Processing sales and creating reports through Tessitura, a widely used performing arts CRM
Ideal qualifications:

Previous customer service experience preferred
Comfortable on the phone and in-person with a variety of people
Knowledge of theatre helpful, but not required
Reports to the Box Office Manager

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT INTERN
Overview:

The Community Engagement Intern will learn what it takes to be truly part of and for a local community through programs and projects designed to increase community awareness.

Skills to be Learned and Implemented:

Representing the organization at community meetings and events
Marketing events and programs to specific communities through alternate methods and channels
Assisting in the creation and implementation of special projects and programs for community members
Develop resources and guides to community partners
Ideal Qualifications:

Applied Theatre background
Strong computer skills, including Google Suite
Excellent writing and communication skills
Great attention to detail and well-organized
Experience working in collaboration with other individuals and community organizations
Experience working with diverse populations
Ability to initiate and complete tasks in a timely manner
Knowledge of social media
Reports to the Community Engagement & EDI Coordinator

COMPANY MANAGEMENT INTERNS
Overview:

The Company Management Interns will learn the importance of ensuring our company of actors and visiting staff have a safe and enjoyable time while at Barrington Stage.

Skills to be Learned and Implemented:

Maintaining and prepping company housing for actors, staff and interns
Scheduling and transporting artists to and from train stations, airports and bus terminals
Addressing artist and staff needs and questions
Coordinating special events such as opening night parties and other festivities
Ideal qualifications:

Empathetic, outgoing personality
Able to listen to artists and staff and enjoy solving problems
Comfortable engaging with and taking care of the needs of artists and staff at all levels
Enjoyment of wearing many hats
Must have valid driver’s license, preferably own vehicle
Reports to the Company Manager

EDUCATION INTERNS
Overview:

The Education Interns will learn about what it takes to create a dynamic and enjoyable youth theatre camp experience for students in elementary through middle school.

Skills to be Learned and Implemented:

Leading games and activities with the campers that will spark their imagination and creativity
Facilitate rehearsals where students devise an original musical based on their ideas
Learn to work with diverse age groups and successfully implement lesson plans
Creating an environment focused on the safety and well-being of the campers
Communicating with parents/caregivers
Participating in special community outreach programming as assigned
Ideal Qualifications:

Experience working with youth
Strong interest in educational theatre and teaching
Experience facilitating musical theatre programming, especially seeking choreography experience
Reports to the Director of Education

HOUSE MANAGEMENT INTERN
The House Management Intern will learn about how to provide top-notch patron experiences as part of a four-person team that manages BSC’s 521-seat Boyd-Quinson Stage or the 136-seat St. Germain Stage.

Skills to be Learned and Implemented:

Supervising the volunteer ushers on front-of-house shifts
Monitoring inventory of concessions
Ensuring prompt curtain times and maintaining the condition of the theatre
Handling requests and needs of patrons
Selling tickets in the box and troubleshooting patron requests
Ideal qualifications:

Personable, quick problem-solver who enjoys interacting with patrons
Familiarity with ticketing software or databases a plus
May be required to go up and down stairs and lift 30 pounds
Working a production schedule including evenings and weekends
Reports to the House Manager

MARKETING INTERN
Overview:

The Marketing Intern will learn about the many different techniques and types of marketing it takes to sell a show and fill a house.

Skills to be Learned and Implemented:

Developing and executing promotional marketing activities and events
Photographing events, including meet and greets, cabarets, opening nights and others as assigned
Planning opening night performances and receptions
Maintaining our postering presence in Berkshire County and surrounding areas
Collecting and organizing press packets, compiling all season press highlights
Ideal qualifications:

Basic skills with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
Excellent writing and proofreading skills
Videography and/or video editing experience would be a plus
Understanding of flexible schedule; some evening and weekend work expected
Familiarity with social media tools (WordFly, Instagram, Facebook)
Reports to the Director of Marketing

SPECIAL EVENTS AND DONOR RELATIONS INTERN
Overview:

The Special Events and Donor Relations Intern will gain valuable skills and experience in event planning, fundraising and donor/volunteer services in support of Barrington Stage Company’s fundraising goals.

Skills to be Learned and Implemented:

Providing support for all fundraising and cultivation events, which may include invitation design, maintaining calendars and tracking budgets, vendor management, running errands, assisting with decor, RSVP tracking, party set-up, clean-up and follow-up
Hosting and engaging major donors in our private patron lounge before performances
Greeting VIP patrons and assisting with parking, ticketing and other special needs
Cultivating and stewarding donors
Researching donors, grant and foundation prospects and assisting with grant writing
Using Tessitura (a leading CRM) to enter donations and to draft acknowledgement letters
Ideal Qualifications:

Interested in fundraising and/or theatre is a strong plus!
Positive! Upbeat! A self-starter! Able to professionally engage BSC’s patrons
Enjoys working independently and with a team to meet goals
Organized, detail-oriented and held to high personal standards of excellence.
Proficient with Microsoft applications (Word and Excel), Google Suite (Gmail; Calendar; Drive — Sheets, Docs, Forms), Tessitura a plus!
