The 2024 GALLIM Moving Artist Residency is a process-based NYC studio residency for seven early career Black, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islander, Latina/e, and people of global majority who are women, non-binary, transgender and gender nonconforming movement artists based in NYC. This program aims to disrupt the oppressive & commodified artistic frameworks built by white supremacist and colonizing ideologies; instead, placing a strong emphasis on fostering a free and untethered creative process for artists who have been systematically & culturally excluded from dominant systems.

The residency offers fully-funded, safe and private studio space, an artist stipend, an artistic and peer mentorship program, free workshops, and promotional support through GALLIM’s communication channels. This residency’s focus is on artistic PROCESS, without any expectation to present a final piece of work. Our definition of “movement artist” is open and includes but is not limited to choreographers, performance artists, physical theater makers, dance/movement filmmakers, folkloric movement artists, educators, and performers with a Marley floor practice.

  • 2 weeks of fully-funded, exclusive access to a large sprung floor studio in NYC Monday-Friday 10am-3pm EST
  • Participation in an artistic and peer mentorship program
  • Visibility through GALLIM’s social media and communication channels
  • Access to GALLIM’s 2024 educational programming
  • $2000 Resident Artist Stipend
  • Additional dependent care funds are available upon request
  • Optional works-in-process showing on July 2nd at Chelsea Factory with video documentation for artist’s future use
