The Dumbo Improvement District is soliciting proposals from video artists to form part of a new Winter Projections Art Walk in Dumbo, in Brooklyn, New York. Each chosen artist will be given a “take over” of all locations as an “exhibit”, with a display period of 10 - 15 evenings over the winter season, January - April, 2024. Works will be presented on a monumental scale, projected onto massive pieces of city infrastructure. Locations include the Manhattan Bridge Anchorage, Susan Smith McKinney Steward Park, and others to be determined (all locations subject to change.) The honorarium per exhibit is $2,000.

Requirements

The work must be appropriate for all ages and be suitable for public space.

Text-only work, violence, nudity, or content that is sexual in nature, includes political messaging, religious messaging, and logos, branding and/or commercial marketing will not be considered for display.

There are two specific types of projection sizes as part of this open call:

  • 1920x1080 (Manhattan Bridge, others TBD)
  • 3000x540 (specific to Dr. Susan Park.)

Understanding that the work will be repeated, the maximum length for pieces is 10 minutes.
All visuals styles are welcome including animation, video and photography. Static images, or a series of static images, are acceptable.
Only finished work is accepted. Works in progress will not be considered. Work can be shared as links for the purposes of the RFP.
Chosen artists will be asked to create all final files in coordination with the Dumbo Improvement District and based on feedback from NYC DOT ART. This may include reformatting, resizing, recutting the work, creating a new title card, and other edits as needed.
