Fellowships at SPACE on Ryder Farm offer early career professionals in the artistic, culinary and agricultural fields an immersive and impactful experience, equipping participants with sought-after skills necessary for their respective professional arenas. SPACE Fellows learn about the inner workings of a robust and unique nonprofit organization by working side-by-side with the SPACE team. Fellowships are offered in three concentrations: Agriculture, Artistic Administration and Culinary.

To learn more about each concentration, please visit the website.

SPACE selects two cohorts of three Fellows (one in each concentration) each year to live and work on Ryder Farm, an idyllic 226-year-old working organic farm in Brewster, New York. In 2021, the two cohorts date ranges are:

  • Monday, April 26th to Wednesday, June 30th
  • Monday, July 19th to Wednesday, November 3rd

Additionally, the second cohort can indicate their interest in staying until Friday, November 12th to be a part of SPACE’s Farm in the City gala. During this extension, Fellows will focus exclusively on helping the SPACE staff prepare for and execute this large event and not necessarily work in their specialized tracks.

All dates are subject to change. Fellows are paid the prevailing minimum wage for Putnam County, New York ($12.50/hr and eligible for overtime) and provided communal living spaces. Additionally, three meals are provided on days when the residency is in session.

In addition to their specialized responsibilities, SPACE Fellows will work collaboratively as a cohort to perform daily tasks which may include setting up for and cleaning up after resident meals and maintaining pristine physical spaces for residents. Also, while their concentration will be their key and primary focus their key and primary focus while at SPACE, Fellows should be prepared to work across all departments to help SPACE meet its operational needs. Finally, each cohort of Fellows will collaborate on a capstone project to identify an internal problem facing SPACE and work together to propose and execute a solution to the problem during the course of their Fellowship.
