Seres Gallery Presents 'Dream Spectrums', A Solo Exhibition by Xiaoping Pei

June 13 – July 14, 2013
6:30 – 6PM

Seres Gallery is pleased to announce Dream Spectrums, a solo exhibition of watercolor paintings by Xiaoping Pei from June 13 through July 14, 2013. There will be an opening reception with the artist on June 13th from 6:30-8:30 PM. As an immigrant Chinese woman, Pei’s narrative is composed of her travels while the distinct stories of her life are intertwined by the cities used as subjects in her paintings.

Xiaoping Pei tells of the journeys that have allowed her to realize her dreams through vibrant and passionate watercolors. Combined with a wide range of hues and Chinese watercolor painting techniques, each city depicted in Xiaoping’s artworks acts as a different phase in her life – a momentary glimpse of both bliss and separation. Her existential moods are consistently centered on the colors that represent them, and the techniques and spectrums aid in enhancing the various themes of her life. New York symbolizes vibrancy, energy, excitement, and change. Venice represents romance and leisure, as well as impressionist painters that have influenced her artistic style. Finally, China is a reminder of the simplistic and the calm, where her home and her heart reside.
