Photo Exhibit to Commemorate to Corky Lee

May 9 – October 10, 2023
12AM
Since junior high school, Corky Lee remembered learning of the contributions of the Chinese railroad workers in the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, one of the greatest engineering feats of its time uniting the East and West of United States. On the day of the big celebration and photograph, the Chinese railroad workers were not invited, while the non-Asian workers were. Corky felt a sense of injustice at this omission in history. He conceived the idea to re-take a new photo with Asian Americans in the picture as his way to reclaim history. Karen Zhou, Corky’s long time partner, went with Corky to the 145th Anniversary of Golden Spike and subsequent years leading up to the historical 150th Anniversary where over 30,000 attendees including many Asian Americans and the descendants of the Chinese railroad workers joined the taking new photos to celebrate the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad! This photo exhibit showcases personal photos taken from Karen’s perspective paying tribute to Corky’s act of “Photographic Justice”.
