International Students in Limbo
12 – 2PM
International students studying in the United States, a majority of whom hail from Asian nations and those from Sub-Saharan African growing at the fastest rate, have found themselves in the cross-hairs of many current federal policies and strategies. From travel bans to visa revocations, punitive measures against campus protests and cuts in federal funding of research, recent actions have made the position of international students quite precarious. Of institutions with large shares of international students, NYU ranks amongst the highest. With approximately 44% of its student body made up of international students, this is an issue of particular urgency on our campus.
This panel brings together scholars and experts to understand the historical and contemporary contexts of international educational exchange, along with the implications and effects of current circumstances for the well-being of international students, as well as for undocumented students who have long resided in the United States.
