Hybridia: a podcast about hybrid identities

November 4 – December 4, 2024
3PM

Hybridia is a podcast for conversations about hybrid identities. Hosts Kirby Chen Mages and Saki Sato are biracial friends who met many years ago in art school but never really discussed their backgrounds. After the Atlanta Spa shootings in 2021 and the beginning of the Stop Asian Hate Movement, they were experiencing grief and confusion about how to process this tragedy. They found solace in talking to each other about these feelings and learned a lot about their shared experiences as “hybrids,” and decided to create the Hybridia podcast in order to continue these conversations with others.

Hybridia is now raising funds to complete post-production for its first season and continue into a second season. In the seven episodes recorded so far, they’ve discussed themes such as assimilation, how hybridity plays into creative pursuits, making peace with never knowing the “whole story,” child rearing and raising, insecurities around never being enough, and what it means to find yourself in a constant in-between.

Community support for this podcast is crucial to make it a reality! You can support them by donating to their campaign, posting about them on socials (@hybridiapod on Instagram), or following on their platform, Seed & Spark. The more followers we get, the more benefits they unlock, so it helps!
