Activate Equity 2023: Power and Representation

Thursday, June 15, 2023
11 – 7PM

The Field’s gathering of artists, cultural workers, activists, and educators tackling the question, “How can we create a more equitable arts sector?”

The Field organizes this event to connect and amplify those who are doing the work. They welcome all who recognize the challenges and systemic issues at play in the arts & culture sector, and want to create innovative solutions for addressing them.

The idea of Visibility vs. Power/Representation is often overlooked in DEI practices everywhere. While visibility may open some doors for those in the arts sector. It is simply not enough just to be seen. What does it mean to possess actual representation? How can power be shifted equitably so that those represented have real agency? What will lead to true self-determination for all artists and cultural workers? For Activate Equity 2023, The Field invites you to participate in a day-long series of talks, workshops exploring power and representation. This day of discussion, self-reflection, and reframing is meant to foster explicit actions and thoughts on how to rethink one’s position as it relates to privilege and/or oppression in all aspects of their identities, reframe the concept of ‘Partnership’, and consider if existing processes are equitable, ethical, and decolonial, and not merely extractive.
