Over eight weeks this summer (June-August), Bard SummerScape, a multi-arts festival presented by the Fisher Center at Bard, returns with a full season of dance, theater, opera, music, and the beloved Spiegeltent, staged for in-person audiences from Bard’s idyllic 1,000-acre campus and its Frank Gehry-designed performing arts center, while adhering to rigorous health and safety protocols.

The Fisher Center seeks to bring on a team of seasonal video engineers to support the myriad activities taking place during Bard SummerScape. Video Engineers are part of the Video Team in the Production Department, and will support the execution of video elements and needs for Bard SummerScape and the Bard Music Festival. They report to the Video Supervisor and with other production team members and video/projection designers.

During show runs, engineers may serve as a PTZ camera operator, a video playback operator, or Video deck crew as needed. Outside of show run, they will participate in planning, maintenance and troubleshooting activities with the Video Supervisor.

This is a seasonal position from approximately early June to mid August, 2022, non-exempt (overtime-eligible), paid hourly at a rate range of $18–23/hr, depending on experience level. Hours will average 35–40 hours/week, with potential for overtime.

This position requires local residence; if needed, campus housing will be provided free of charge.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain a safe, healthy, and inclusive workplace at all times.
Assist the Video Supervisor and work closely with the video team in the preparation, installation, operation, and maintenance of all video and streaming aspects of all productions and special events.
Actively participate in all video work calls.
Update video paperwork as needed.
Assist the Video Supervisor in maintaining all video equipment, including rental gear.
Attend and work technical rehearsals and performances.
Assist the Orchestra Production Manager in providing video support for all orchestra rehearsal.

QUALIFICATIONS

General troubleshooting skills.
Basic knowledge of general theatrical production practices.
Familiarity with signaling, camera, and display technologies.
General experience with cameras and video signal distribution is essential, but training will be offered on specific equipment in use during SummerScape.
Ability to read and understand video schematic drawings.
Experience and exposure to several different PTZ camera systems is helpful, but not required.
Experience with CCTV monitoring and conductor cameras is a plus.
Experience with video playback and programming is a plus.
Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Premiere and/or After Effects is a plus.
Successful candidates possess strong communication skills and a keen attention to detail. They are collaborative, self-motivated, and bring a positive, can-do attitude!

LOCATION

Bard’s beautiful 1,000-acre campus is situated on the east bank of the Hudson River, in Annandale-on Hudson, New York. Community life is defined by numerous cultural and recreational opportunities in the surrounding historic Hudson River Valley and by proximity to New York City. Nearby towns and villages include Rhinebeck, Tivoli, and Red Hook, New York.
