Barrington Stage Company (BSC), an award-winning theatre in the Berkshires in Pittsfield, MA is seeking a Director of Marketing. The Director of Marketing is responsible for the effective promotion and communication of BSC’s core mission and programming. Barrington Stage produces 10 productions a year, plus special events and digital programming. The all-inclusive marketing plan is comprised of the successful implementation of all initiatives and activities, including brand strategy, messaging, marketing, advertising, web, social media, collateral materials, group sales, and public relations to meet institutional and ticket sales goals. Must have 5 years experience in arts marketing (preferably theatre).

The successful candidate must have superior leadership and organizational skills, be a strong collaborator with other department heads and have the ability to translate internal marketing needs into strong and consistent messages. Candidate needs to be a strategic thinker while possessing the ability to execute tactically. Must also have exceptional computer skills. The position begins in January.

Requirements

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, design and implement marketing, promotional, and grassroots strategies designed to enhance awareness of BSC and achieve sales goals in single tickets, subscriptions, group sales and other earned revenue.
  • Project revenue and expenses. Monitor and efficiently allocate the marketing budget.
  • Oversight of box office, policies and procedures, including strategic analysis of sales and audiences.
  • Identify and cultivate new audiences, while retaining and cultivating deeper engagement from existing audiences.
  • Hire, supervise and motivate a team of marketing and communications professionals while ensuring their continuous development and active engagement.
  • Ensure BSC remains strategically nimble by continually evaluating and revising marketing and outreach activities to be responsive to new opportunities, challenges and findings from research/data.
  • Supervise implementation of all web, digital and print projects, marketing collateral and advertising campaigns, providing creative direction and final approval.
  • Make active efforts to contract with BIPOC consultants and/or vendors, particularly in support of BIPOC-oriented performances and events.
  • Communicate a compelling vision of the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion at BSC, and engage with counterparts in the arts sector, particularly regionally, to embed DEI as a priority in our sector, our region and create community change.
  • Collaborate with department heads to maximize opportunities for content creation, and provide opportunities for campaign input where appropriate-particularly with Artistic, Development and Education.

The Director of Marketing reports directly to the Artistic Director. Direct reports include Marketing & Social Media Manager, Box Office Manager, Group Sales, Content Marketing Associate

Schedule requires flexibility with some evening and weekend hours when the theatre is in production. Salary is $65,000-$70,000 commensurate with experience plus relocation assistance offered to out-of-town candidates as well as a competitive benefits package.
