Carpenter/ Run Crew

Over eight weeks this summer (June-August), Bard SummerScape, a multi-arts festival presented by the Fisher Center at Bard, returns with a full season of dance, theater, opera, music, and the beloved Spiegeltent, staged for in-person audiences from Bard’s idyllic 1,000-acre campus and its Frank Gehry-designed performing arts center, while adhering to rigorous health and safety protocols.

Carpenters/Run-Crew are part of the Scenic team in the Production Department, and will support the construction and installation of all scenic elements. They report to the Technical Director and Assistant Technical Director, and work closely with other production team members and scenic designers.

Run-crew members work in close proximity to company and stage management to support real-time performance scene changes and striking/setting of elements on stage.

Positions for both entry-level and experienced stagehands/carpenters are available.

This is a seasonal position from approximately early June to early August, 2022, non-exempt (overtime-eligible), paid hourly at a rate range of $13.20–23/hr, depending on experience level. Hours will average 35–40 hours/week, with potential for overtime.

This position requires local residence; if needed, campus housing will be provided free of charge.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Construct and assemble scenic pieces.
Support scenic load-in.
Perform various tasks/cues during live productions.
Assist with moving scenic set pieces.
Assist with handling ropes, wires, or other rigging.
Support Spiegeltent and other outdoor events

LOCATION

Bard’s beautiful 1,000-acre campus is situated on the east bank of the Hudson River, in Annandale-on Hudson, New York. Nearby towns and villages include Rhinebeck, Tivoli, and Red Hook, New York.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Ability and experience working with power tools.
Knowledge of general woodworking and construction techniques.
Ability to lift 30 lbs. and work comfortably & safely at a variety of heights.
Experience working with metal and plastics is a plus.
Experience with theatrical rigging, welding, and basic paint techniques are a plus.
Successful candidates possess strong communication skills and a keen attention to detail. They are collaborative, self-motivated, and bring a positive, can-do attitude!
Experience with running cues with live theatre/events.
