//About the Role
The artistic administrator works directly with Benjamin Akio Kimitch, an independent choreographer; and plays an essential role in the development and execution of artistic projects. Projects include a publication and a year-long dance research project in Kyoto and Brooklyn. The artistic administrator will lead general and creative logistics that bridge producing, general management, and development. Work is predominantly remote with occasional in-person responsibilities in NYC. This is a freelance position ranging 80-100 hours from May-December 2023. This position is tied to funding through calendar year 2023, with a hope for continued growth into 2024-25.

//Key Responsibilities
o Assist artist with timeline of project workflow.
o Coordinate rehearsal space.
o Schedule meetings.
o Track running costs and payments (domestic and international). Collaborate on budgets.
o Draft contracts.
o Regular communication with collaborators and external partners on behalf of the artist.
o Research travel and housing.
o 30-minute check-in meetings, usually over Zoom, every 2-4 weeks. Additional meetings may be scheduled as needed.
o Assist with reporting and tracking compliance for grants.
o In-person, project-related errands as needed.
o On-site presence at any NYC-based public showings.

//Compensation
Hourly rate of $28/hour, ranging 80-100 hours from May-December 2023. Independent contractor.

//About the Artist
Benjamin Akio Kimitch is an artist and producer living in Brooklyn, NY. Most recently, Kimitch premiered a new dance work titled Tiger Hands, commissioned by The Shed as part of Open Call 2022. His choreography has also been presented by The Noguchi Museum, Danspace Project, 92 Street Y, and The Kitchen Dance and Process. He was a visiting artist at the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography at Florida State University and a Movement Research Artist-in-Residence. Alongside his artistic practice, Kimitch is a producer for PAC NYC (Perelman Performing Arts Center) at the World Trade Center. This job posting is not affiliated with PAC NYC.

Requirements

Strong experience working with independent performing artists, with interest in new work and R&D. Candidate should be an ambitious leader and a collaborator. Empathetic, chill, and lives for detail. Bilingual in Japanese or Mandarin could open up other opportunities within the role, but it’s not a requirement. The job title could be reconsidered to reflect the experience of the right candidate.
